Diane's Review of Saving Forever - Part 4 by Lexy Timms

Saving Forever - Part 4Saving Forever - Part 4 by Lexy Timms
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great end to the series

Charity and Elijah were getting married! Despite the many obstacles, including a long-distance romance, a crazy stalker and struggles with family, they were ready to take the next step. Recovering from the shooting, Charity found herself happier than she thought she could be. Elijah was everything that she never knew she wanted. The planets were aligning and the wedding was fast-tracked to happen at Elijah’s home in New Zealand. Shaky from the hearing and despite her misgivings about her future mother-in-law, she wasn’t going to let that stand in the way of having the small, intimate ceremony she envisioned for her wedding. Her wedding dress seemed to just drop into her lap which should have given a clue that the shoe had to drop in a different way. A medical emergency in the midst of the festivities threatened her hard-won happiness but family would be there, as always, to see her through.

This fourth, and last, installment of the Saving Forever series brought with it a satisfyingly happy ending. The last year brought many ups and downs to her life but Charity kept true to herself and met each challenge and setback head on. A strong and self-confident heroine, I couldn’t help but cheer her and Elijah on through each roadblock. While I had some misgivings about the “playboy” at first, he seemed to be a mixed blessing until each crisis revealed his true colours. With the story being spread out over four distinct installments, drama abounded in each but it never seemed soapy or over the top. A nod to family, sticking true to yourself and keeping yourself open to love - a highly enjoyable series!

Diane's Review of Saving Forever - Part 3 by Lexy Timms

Saving Forever - Part 3 (Saving Forever, #3)Saving Forever - Part 3 by Lexy Timms
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I did not see this coming!

The third in the series ably carries on from the last with Charity and Elijah continuing to move forward in their relationship. Work commitments on both sides do not work in their favor as distance feeds uncertainty and jealousy. Even though Charity felt she had a breakthrough with her Dad over the holidays this seems to have re-opened old wounds even further. Though happy, and successful, as a hospital fundraiser, her Dad refuses to give up hope she will follow in his footsteps and complete her medical education. With her Dad’s influence providing an opportunity to continue her medical studies, and Elijah applying his own influence to see her back in New York full-time, she feels the pressure building. Her feelings for Elijah continue to grow as she sees the success of another event in Atlanta before coming back to New York for her father’s own gala. Surprises are around every corner and not all are pleasant. Parental pressure and career uncertainty may be the least of Charity’s worries!

In my opinion, serials have a challenge to keep the reader eagerly anticipating the next in the series. While I’m not a fan of cliffhangers (my e-reader really dislikes being thrown across the room as I am left hanging by a book) a serial still needs to provide a hook or reason for me to want to come back. This chapter provided me with that and more with its hot romance, angst, jealousy and drama. The climax was a real surprise with the ending what I was thirsting for. I can’t wait for the final installment!

Diane's Review of Saving Forever - Part 2 by Lexy Timms

Saving Forever - Part 2 (Saving Forever, #2)Saving Forever - Part 2 by Lexy Timms
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Family was not always easy…

This is part two of a four part serial. Charity Thompson is a hospital fundraiser who is juggling work commitments and a new romantic relationship while trying to rebuild a connection with her father. Charity accepted a two-year contract in Atlanta but could not say no to her father when he asked for her help in organizing a hospital function in his honor. Commuting to New York seemed a small price to pay. As the story continues, Charity is happily surprised when her new beau, Dr. Elijah Bennet, joins her in Atlanta during a milestone evening gala. A family emergency calls Elijah home to his native New Zealand and, despite her misgivings, she decides to join him. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and leaving early to return home found Charity wondering if their fledgling relationship would survive. As Christmas approached, Charity found herself sharing a holiday meal with both of the men in her life – would this provide the healing they all needed or would it drive them even further apart?

This continuation of Charity’s story brought more insight into her broken relationship with her Dad as well as seeing things with Elijah move forward. While Elijah was an extremely successful surgeon, and could have his pick of romantic partners, not everything was perfect in his life. His problems with family seemed to mirror Charity’s own and provided much of the backdrop to this installment. With their own relationship now in trouble, I did find it interesting that two highly successful professionals, whose careers were all about problem-solving, immediately fell into silence to (not) deal with their issues. This is another well-written installment with only minor editing issues. The loving is hot while the drama is tension-filled - I am looking forward to seeing where this will go!

Diane's Review of Saving Forever - Part 1 by Lexy Timms

Saving Forever - Part 1 (Saving Forever, #1)Saving Forever - Part 1 by Lexy Timms
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Short but sweet!

After losing her mother suddenly to cancer, Charity Thompson quit medical school to concentrate on fundraising for hospitals like the one that tried to help her mom. This did not help her already rocky relationship with her father, a successful and well-respected doctor himself. Even knowing this would drive another wedge between them, Charity had to follow her heart. Despite their differences, she could not say no when her Dad asked for her help in planning a hospital gala fundraiser in honor of his sixty-fifth birthday. Juggling a new assignment in a different city, Charity had a juggling act to perform and was unprepared when the Chief Surgeon at her father’s hospital suddenly became more than another set of helping hands. And what would her father say?

This is the first in a four-part serial romance that is short but satisfyingly sweet. The loss of her mother, the strained relationship with her father and the budding romance between her and the resident Chief was told in a comfortable, conversational writing style. I couldn’t help but feel for Charity as she struggled with the career choice she made while still seeking her Dad’s approval. Despite her success in her new career choice, she still felt the sting of his disapproval. Being attracted to her Dad’s colleague brought another dimension to an already complicated situation. Could she risk a relationship with another doctor – one whose schedule was as busy – if not busier – than her own father’s? Hearing about his many romantic exploits at the hospital didn’t help either. An interesting end to part one has a medical emergency butting into their romantic evening. Am looking forward to the next in the series!

Lindsey's Review for Devil Trap by Honoria Ravena

The Devil's Trap (In Darkness We Dwell Book #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

I did a lot of thinking after reading this book. I really wanted love this book because it holds so much potential to me. Nyx to me made the perfect hero and Pagan a good heroin but what has me on the borderline is the story itself. It literally was everywhere I just couldn't keep up with it. Don't get me wrong there are so many good points about this book and hot steamy screens that it helps get through the book. This book has so many ups and down but the characters is what makes this book good. The plot was there, the characters were there but like I said it was everywhere.
The basic of the story is the heroin is a vampire hunter who has been hired to kill nyx who is ancient and powerful . They meet fight and nyx blood bonds with pagan and from there the story goes full frontal . There is so much going on that it was easy to get lost the only thing about this book is that it has so much potential to be a great book I was a little disappointed in it. Nyx makes a great vampire he is strong aggressive, hot and a pain in Pagans side .Pagan is strong, and stubborn. As the story progress we find out more about her and her brother Jason who is also a hunter past. What makes this a different type of vampire story is after Jason and Pagans parents death they are raised by the vampires who saved them from being killed along with their parents . Then there is a war going on in the Vampire society which leads to even more drama.

Like I said this book has the potential to be a great book and I’ll be reading the next book to see what happens because this is a story that invites yet falls short of being great.

Pagan is the best vampire hunter money can buy. But, when she’s paid to kill one of the most powerful vampires in existence, she gets in way over her head. When things go south there will be no escape.

But when Pagan's protection evaporates and an enemy from her past tries to murder her and her brother she'll be forced to trust Nyx. Because really, who is the larger threat? The man out to destroy mankind? Or the vampire determined to own her heart?

The Devil's Trap Excerpt © Honoria Ravena
I lunged, knife out, ready to slash at him. He jumped back in time to avoid the full blow, but I still caught him across the arm.
He hissed and glared at me. "You're sloppy, Pagan, you need more practice."
I smirked at the sight of blood. Oh yeah, I was going to enjoy causing him pain. He deserved it after what he'd done to my brother. "I got a slice of you, didn't I?"
"Sure, but that should've been a much more damaging blow than this little nick. You only got me because I thought I'd rolled your mind. I won't make that mistake again."
He disappeared in a blur of speed. He was too fast for my human eyes to track him. I spun around, expecting him to come at me from behind. He appeared by my side and knocked my knife hand. The blade went spinning.
I jumped back but stopped mid-retreat. I didn't want to escape him. I wanted him to pull me against his body, to forgive me for hurting him.
What was wrong with me? I was here to kill him. I didn't need his forgiveness.
He took a hesitant step toward me, and part of me yelled to draw my other knife while the other part demanded I caress his wounded arm and make sure I hadn't hurt him too badly.
A fog washed over my mind when he ran his hands up and down my arms. "Give me your knives, all of them."
"Don't give him jack shit, Pagan!"
I peered around Nyx and saw my brother. Deathly pale, with a sheen of sweat marking his face, my brother swayed on his feet. He leaned against the doorframe of the hallway, as if he couldn't stand on his own. I moved to go around Nyx. I needed to make sure he was okay, but Nyx seized my arm in a vise-like grip, stopping me in my tracks.
The master vampire frowned at my brother with disapproval. "How did you get away from Laedan?"
The corner of Jason's mouth tilted up, revealing one long, white fang. The blood left my head, and I actually placed my hand on Nyx's chest to keep myself from toppling over. God, my big brother really was a vampire. He definitely wasn't sporting any plastic fangs in that mouth of his.
"You shouldn't have left Laedan with me. You know a newly made, unfed vampire running on adrenaline is more powerful than a werewolf. Even one with fighting skills like his."
Nyx's eyes narrowed. "You didn't kill him, did you?"
"No, just had a little drink."
"You're not looking more powerful than Laedan," I said. My poor brother's face was a pale green, his eyes unfocused, as if he were knocking on Death's door.
Nyx glanced at me and placed his hand over mine on his chest. His frown of concern scrunched his forehead. "He's still changing."
Jason screamed and doubled over. I tried to jerk myself out of Nyx's grip, but he held firm, and the urge to move vanished as I watched my brother, horrified.
Nyx flinched. "This will be the last night he'll be in pain. Until then, he should really go lie down while I deal with you."
"I won't rest while you're trying to kill my sister, asshole," Jason gasped from the floor.
"I'm not going to kill her." He ran his fingers gently through my hair. A lover's caress.
"Pagan, get away from him." When I didn't move, he glared at Nyx. "What are you doing to her?"
"Touching enhances my hold over her." He released his grip on my arm and slid his hands up to my shoulders to pull me to him and kiss my throat. I jerked out of his embrace, unable to think. I had to get some distance from him.
My head ached, and my mouth was as dry as the desert. I drew my knife and backed away from him. "Let go of my mind, damn it!"
"Put that knife down." The order came through so clearly I couldn't tell if Nyx had spoken aloud or if it was all in my head.
Pain detonated behind my eyes. It was so ferocious I almost passed out. My hand shook so badly that I almost dropped the blade.
"Come here, damn it! Stop fighting me."
Agony scattered my thoughts. I stumbled as the weight of his mind crashed into mine. The knife clattered to the ground. My knees cracked as they hit the floor, but I barely noticed the pain. No physical sensation compared to what was going on in my head.
His commands bombarded me. I wanted to beg him to stop, to tell him I'd do whatever he wanted, but my teeth were clenched together against the words, and I couldn't force them apart.
Suddenly, everything stopped. I came to my senses, lying huddled on the floor, drenched in sweat. My short nails had managed to dig into my palms. I uncurled my fingers. Blood oozed from the little crescents indented in my palms.
"Get up, Pagan, damn it! You need to run." My brother started pulling me roughly to my feet.
"What happened?"
"I jumped Nyx, but he won't be down for long."
I glanced around and noticed the demolished bar. Broken glass and wood lay strewn everywhere. The mirrors behind the bar were cracked and coated in blood.
My brother shoved me toward the door, and I almost fell. He grabbed my hand to steady me and froze. "You're bleeding." His grip tightened around my hand, and I flinched.
He dropped my hand and spun away so fast that I couldn't track the movement. "Run, Pagan. You'll end up dead if you don't."
"You have to come with me. I can't leave you here."
He looked over his shoulder for a split second, but he didn't turn around. "Don't you get it? You're bleeding. Even if you weren't, I'm not sure I could go with you. Adrenaline got me this far, but I'm stretching my control to the limit just standing this close to you. I've resisted feeding until now. It's why I'm in even more pain than normal."
Tears streaked down my face. "Jason, I can't leave you here. He'll kill you for this."
I grabbed his shoulder and spun him around. He hissed, baring razor sharp fangs. He knocked my hand away, covered his face, and backpedaled.
Tears completely obscured my vision. A sob tore through my body. "Jason, come with me! I can't... You keep me safe. It's my fault this happened to you. Please!"
He didn't take his hands off his face. "This isn't your fault."
The rubble that used to be the bar shifted before Nyx sat up.
He wiped the blood out of his eyes and pointed at Jason. "I'm going to kick your ass, boy."
Jason pushed me toward the door and took up a fighting stance in front of me. "Pagan, run! I'll find a way out, but right now you need to be somewhere safe."
I backed away, glancing around the bar. The Devil’s Trap’s patrons sat around watching the show, but none interfered.

When my gaze went back to Nyx, he was already up and heading toward me. He shoved my brother so hard Jason dented the wall. I turned and ran for dear life.
